We had a former astronaut visit our school and talk about his job and books he had made. It was once his job to take pictures on the international space station for a movie. Before he was an astronaut, he was a pilot for the military. He wrote a few books, and my sister read one and said it was very interesting. He also talked to us about how he loved rocket ships when he was little, he also said lots about training. Thanks for reading!

In my LA class, we worked on making an art book and we worked with an artisit Peg Gignoux. We made the books by taking leaves and flowers and ink, and we imprinted them on paper and it was so pretty. We placed them on the books and we made nature scenes.

In language arts we made investments in companies with 20,000 dollars (they are fake). The reason we did this is because we are reading this book called The Westing Game, and in it there is a girl named Turtle who is money obsessed. So, Turtle buys stocks in many companies hoping to make lots of money.

How I chose which companies I wanted to invest in was, research; I looked up top brands and brands that might rise in price. I also went off of what other people were recommending. The companies I invested in are: Lululemon, Walmart, Starbucks, PayPal, Delta and Clorox.

How I predict these companies will do, I think they will do well but some are negative which is not good.

How I kept track of my numbers was by setting up a spreadsheet and I learned how to code it to do math automatically. This is a picture of the spreadsheet.

In LA we had to retell a story from our childhood and this is the story I chose

How Groundhog’s Garden Grew

I first heard this book from my mom who got me the book. She read it to me many times, but eventually we both practically memorized it because we read it so much. This story is important to me because this was the story id beg to hear every night and I loved the story so much. The story made me feel like if I was ever in trouble some one would help me just like the squirrel helped the groundhog. The story is special because it wasn’t put in human perspective and the scenario was very creative and interesting.

It all started with a groundhog that lived in a forest with not much company. How he ate was by taking food from a fellow squirrel’s garden, and when the squirrel found out she was not happy. “Don’t take food from my garden, make your own!” The squirrel yelled angrily after finding out where all of her cabbage had been going. “I don’t know how.” The little groundhog replied sadly. “Oh, well, I can show you how.” The squirrel said forgivingly. So the squirrel showed the groundhog how to plant fruits and vegetables and spices. She also showed him how to collect seeds and also taught him about different types of plants. After that they waited all through winter with the seeds in the groundhog’s burrow waiting to be planted. Once spring came around, squirrel helped groundhog plant his garden. And then groundhog waited and waited until his garden was grown. He made sure to pay careful attention to what squirrel said about taking care of his garden. Once it was grown, squirrel suggested that groundhog throw a party for all of the animals in the forest and cook with the food from his garden. Groundhog took the suggestion and set out to prepare. He made invitations and decorated, but most importantly he cooked lots of food for all of the animals in the forest. When the animals showed up, they exclaimed that the food was the best they had ever had. And after that the groundhog had many friends and he also held an annual garden party.

In language arts we did this project on a perfect planet that we create. Mine was named Delphi with a moon named Hyperion and a lot of the places were named after things in Greek mythology. Some basic description, there are many beaches on Delphi, and the water on Delphi is blue but drinking water and spring water are light pink. The air is less dense on Delphi and there is less gravity so you can jump higher. The sky is a blue color and looks higher up compared to earth’s sky. There are many countries and places on Delphi. 

This was a really fun project to work on but here is my whole description;

My planet is called Delphi. It is located in the Andromeda galaxy and has one moon named Hyperion. Delphi has five continents. One of the continents, Decataur has three countries; Winter, Bridger and Blackwell are known to be very cold or frigid. Another continent is Maricopa. Maricopa has three countries; Florence, Capae and Trinidad are known to have amazing beaches. Another continent is Dixon that has two countries; Marion and Elmdale are mainly known for their forests. The continent Covelo has three countries; Avalon, North Fallon and South Fallon are mainly known for their big cities. The last continent, Denton, has three countries; Vecierca, Emry and Sonali are known for their deserts. 

There are many beaches on Delphi. Sea water on Delphi is blue but drinking water and spring water are light pink. Water tastes like pink lemonade but is totally healthy. Landscapes on Delphi are very pretty and colorful. There are gemstones that are many colors, shapes and sizes. They are mainly found underground or in rocky areas by the sea. The air is less dense on Delphi and there is less gravity so you can jump higher. The sky is a blue color and looks higher up compared to earth’s sky. There are animals that live in water that are many colors. They all have gills and breathe underwater. There are also many animals that can fly that are eagle-like creatures. There are also creatures and plants on land that are very important to Delphi’s life cycle.

In the different countries there are different ways of living and political systems. Decataur and Dixon have many monarchies and dictatorships. The monarchies work a little differently from ours. In Decataur and Dixon, a person runs for king or queen, and whoever wins family becomes royalty and the next three generations of the family get to rule and then there is another election. Maricopa, Covelo, and Dentonhave a representative democracy. They elect someone every year to be their president.

I do gymnastics and I recently went to the Greensboro Gymnastics Invite. I think I did pretty well. I did better on vault than I did at Think Pink, I got a 9.250 and that’s pretty good  for vault. I did well on beam which is a really big surprise, but the judges were really hard on floor, but I still did pretty well, and I did not compete bars. I did pretty well and I can’t wait for Rumble in Raleigh in a few weeks!

Hi,

I do gymnastics and I recently went to a meet called Think Pink. It was really fun and my team was really supportive of each other and other teams. I did best on vault, since I was about seven I’ve always gotten top three for vault. So I got first on vault, sixth on beam, I didn’t place on bars because I didn’t compete them, and fourth on floor. I think that I did pretty well at that meet.

Hi,

I want to talk about my heat shield project in science. It was where we had to make this little square of materials stacked on top if each other protecting an egg for a blowtorch. We had a group and we tested materials with a heat gun not a blowtorch and recorded our findings. Then we built the final project, my partner and I named our egg JLo, then we tested it outside with the blowtorch and … our egg stayed raw! I’m really proud of me and my partner for this project.

Hi,

My grade went on a field trip last Friday and we went to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC. There were so many cool exhibits about wildlife, fish and so many other cool animals. There were also many interactive things and exhibits, like being a meteorologist and a 3D printing showing. It was really fun and we got to learn about race and how it isn’t even a real thing and how it effects our world.

Hi, in my LA class towards the beginning of the year, we made these backpack pictures with listed items in them. This project was based off of one of the books we read for summer reading and the girl survived hurricane Katrina and she needed to pack a backpack to survive. So that is what this project is based off of.
